My life...get up, exercise, get kids ready for the day, home school, pick up teenager from public school, eat lunch, get three year old ready for a nap, surf the net, cook supper, read scriptures with the family, evening activities (chauffeuring is a big part of it), go to bed. Repeat, repeat, repeat ....
Hmmm...there doesn’t seem to be much brain stimulation in my daily routine does there?
Recently, my DH and I attended a Thomas Jefferson Education seminar (leadership education) where we learned the importance of the classics (books, etc.) in education. At the end of the seminar, I challenged myself to read something for my own education for a half hour each day. I started reading Les Miserables. A bit overwhelming when you consider it has almost 1,500 pages.
A week later, we made an exciting discovery at the local used bookstore. We found a complete set of Great Books of the Western World along with two companion sets (Gateway to the Great Books and The Great Ideas Program). This is a sure sign of middle age. I’m excited over old books, and I want to exercise my brain! ; )
Les Miserables is on hold at the moment while I read a selection from Robinson Crusoe in the Gateway to the Great Books set.
And this is on hold while I cook supper ...
